MetaCommunications [IOWA CITY, Iowa] announced that Gregg Hammann will assume the roles of President and CEO. An experienced former CEO for global brands, Hammann is the current Chair of Meta’s board and will be replacing outgoing CEO, Scott Kokotan, who is moving on to a new opportunity. Hammann joined Meta’s board in 2016 as the Chairman, bringing deep experience in successful president and CEO roles for an array of global companies. From 2003 – 2007 he was President and CEO of publicly traded Nautilus Inc., later becoming Chairman. Previously, Hammann held leadership positions at Levi Strauss & Company, The Coca-Cola Company, Famous Footwear, The Rayovac Corporation, and Procter & Gamble. In 2007, Hammann started his own consulting firm, Action Advisors, advising major Fortune 500 companies including Disney, Microsoft, and Walmart on corporate strategy and serving as an acting CEO for three separate companies.
ForeverGreen Worldwide Corporation [LINDON, Utah] announced the appointment of Rick Redford, as the company’s new CEO. Ron Williams has resigned as the company’s President and CEO, and will remain as a member of the Board of Directors, as well as continue in a consulting role working directly with the leadership in the field.
Kinexum [WASHINGTON] announced the appointment of Thomas C. Seoh as President and CEO. Seoh succeeds G. Alexander (“Zan”) Fleming, Kinexum founder, who becomes Executive Chairman and will continue to serve as a strategic advisor to Kinexum clients. Seoh served in legal management positions with Viratek and Guilford Pharmaceuticals prior to rising to be Guilford’s SVP for Corporate and Commercial Development and CEO of neurology-focused Faust Pharmaceuticals. He has served as a member of the Hopkins Alliance, an industry-faculty advisory board at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Barnes & Noble, Inc. [NEW YORK] (NYSE: BKS) announced the promotion of Demos Parneros to Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Company’s Board of Directors. Commensurate with the appointment of Parneros, Leonard Riggio will step down as CEO and remain Chairman of the Board of Directors. Parneros has been Chief Operating Officer of Barnes & Noble since November 2016. He joined the Company with 30 years of leadership experience in all aspects of retail management, including operations, human resources, merchandising, e-commerce, marketing and real estate. Prior to joining the Company, Parneros served as President, North American Stores & Online at Staples, Inc. He joined Staples in 1987 as a General Manager and worked his way up the ranks through multiple management positions, including Senior Vice President Mid-Atlantic Operations, President, US Stores, President, US Retail, and President North American Stores & Online. Parneros has been a director of KeyCorp since January 2014 and a director at Modell’s Sporting Goods since July 2009.
Weight Watchers International, Inc. [NEW YORK] (NYSE: WTW) announced that Mindy Grossman has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer effective July 2017. Grossman will also join the Weight Watchers Board of Directors at that time. Until Grossman’s arrival, the company will continue to be led by the members of the Interim Office of the CEO, Nicholas Hotchkin, Chief Financial Officer, and Thilo Semmelbauer and Christopher Sobecki, Directors of the company. From 2008-2017 Grossman served as Chief Executive Officer of HSN, Inc. and a member of the company’s Board of Directors. Grossman joined IAC, HSN’s former parent company, in 2006 as CEO of IAC Retail. Earlier career highlights include serving as Global Vice President at Nike, Inc., President and CEO of Polo Jeans Company, Vice President of New Business Development at Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation, President of Chaps Ralph Lauren, and Senior Vice President of Menswear for Warnaco, Inc. She also held senior positions at Tommy Hilfiger and Oxford Industries. Grossman serves as Chairman of the National Retail Federation Board of Directors. She also serves as Vice Chairman for UNICEF USA and is a member of the Board of Directors of Bloomin’ Brands. Additionally, Grossman is a member of the U.S. Commerce Department’s Digital Economy Board of Advisors.
Cox Enterprises [ATLANTA] named Alexander C. Taylor, executive vice president and chief operating officer, as the company’s next president and chief executive officer, effective Jan. 1, 2018. Taylor will succeed John Dyer, president and chief executive officer, who will retire in Dec. after 40 years with the company. Dyer and Taylor will both continue serving on the Cox Enterprises’ board of directors. Taylor previously served as Cox Enterprises’ executive vice president of strategic investments. Taylor has held numerous positions within the company’s divisions. He was senior vice president of field operations for Cox Communications and executive vice president of Cox Media Group, Taylor began his career at Cox as a reporter for the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel in Colorado in May 2000. He chairs American Rivers board of directors and is a board member of the Food Well Alliance and PATH Foundation.
MIRAMAX® [LOS ANGELES] have named Bill Block as Chief Executive Officer. Block most recently served as Founder/CEO of production company QED. Prior to that, Block was the President of Artisan Entertainment.
Yardarm [ALPHARETTA, GA] announced that Kirsten Kliphouse has been appointed as chief executive officer (CEO). Robert Stewart, Yardarm’s founder and current CEO, will continue to serve as chairman of the Yardarm board of directors. Most recently, Kirsten served as Microsoft Corporate Vice President of Customer Service and Support. Before her role as Corporate Vice President, Kliphouse served as the Vice President of Microsoft’s Enterprise Sales and Partner Group.
scPharmaceuticals, Inc. [LEXINGTON, Mass.] announced the appointment of John Tucker as president and chief executive officer. Tucker was also elected to the board of directors of scPharmaceuticals. Prior to joining scPharmaceuticals, Tucker served as Chief Executive Officer of Alcresta. Prior to Alcresta, he served as senior vice president and chief commercial officer of Incline Therapeutics. He joined Incline from AMAG Pharmaceuticals, where he was senior vice president, commercial operations. Previously, he was president, U.S. operations at Basilea Pharmaceuticals. Prior to Basilea, Tucker was executive vice president, sales and marketing at Indevus Pharmaceuticals. Earlier in his career, he held a variety of both hospital and retail-based sales and marketing positions with increasing levels of responsibility at Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceuticals, ALZA Corporation, VIVUS and UCB Pharma.
Proclara Biosciences [CAMBRIDGE, Mass.] announced the appointment of Suzanne Bruhn as president and chief executive officer (CEO). Bruhn will serve as president and CEO, and join the Board of Directors of Proclara. She most recently served as president and CEO of Promedior, Inc. Previously, she served as senior vice president of strategic planning and program management at Shire’s Human Genetic Therapies division. Bruhn serves on the Board of Directors of Aeglea BioTherapeutics, Inc. and Pliant Therapeutics.
Progeny Genetics LLC (Progeny) [DELRAY BEACH, Fla.] announced that Jamie L’Heureux has been appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer. L’Heureux brings over 12 years of experience in both research and clinical genetics as a Board Certified genetic counselor. She began her career at the University of Iowa as a Research Coordinator for several international research projects. For the past three years, L’Heureux served as Software Product Manager at Progeny.
AbsenceSoft [DENVER, CO] appointed Matthew Brady to the newly created role of Chief Executive Officer. He was previously Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer of a startup in the talent acquisition sector. Prior to that, he was the Chief Operating Officer of an Internet of Things startup. Brady has also joined the AbsenceSoft Board of Directors.
Popular, Inc. [SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico] (NASDAQ: BPOP) has named Ignacio Alvarez, who has been President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) since 2014 as President and CEO and a member of the Board of Directors of the Corporation. Richard Carrión, currently Popular’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will become Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Corporation. These appointments will become effective on July 1, 2017. As President and COO, Alvarez has overseen the operations of Banco Popular de Puerto Rico and Popular Community Bank for the past three years. Prior to joining Popular in 2010 as Chief Legal Officer, Alvarez was a founding partner of a San Juan, Puerto Rico based law firm, where he specialized in corporate and banking law.
Ophthotech Corporation [NEW YORK] (NASDAQ: OPHT) announced that David R. Guyer, a co-founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Ophthotech will transition to Executive Chairman effective July 1, 2017. Concurrent with this transition, Ophthotech’s appointed Glenn P. Sblendorio, the Company’s President and Chief Financial Officer, as Chief Executive Officer of the Company, also effective July 1, 2017. Glenn P. Sblendorio joined Ophthotech in 2016 as Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer and was appointed President in January 2017 while continuing to serve as Chief Financial Officer. Sblendorio also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Ophthotech from 2013 to 2016. Prior to joining Ophthotech, he served as President and Chief Financial Officer and member of the Board of Directors of The Medicines Company from 2006 to 2016. Sblendorio served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Eyetech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from 2002 through 2005. From 2000 through 2002, he held the title of Senior Vice President of Business Development for The Medicines Company. His pharmaceutical experience also includes 12 years at Hoffmann-LaRoche, Inc. in a variety of senior financial positions. Sblendorio currently serves on the Board of Directors of Amicus Therapeutics and Intercept Pharmaceuticals.
Personal Capital [SILICON VALLEY, Calif.] promoted Jay Shah as the company’s chief executive officer and nominated him as a member of the board of directors. Shah was most recently chief operating officer of Personal Capital Shah has 20 years of experience in the technology industry, including four years as chief information officer at E-LOAN.
Globetouch [OAKLAND, Calif.] announced the appointment of Riccardo Di Blasio as CEO. Di Blasio has held key executive roles at several companies, including EMC Corp. and VMware. Di Blasio replaces Globetouch’s Ori Sasson in this role, who will continue to support Globetouch as Vice Chairman. Di Blasio joins Globetouch from Cohesity, Inc, where he was COO. Di Blasio also cooperates as a board advisor with several venture capitalist funds.
Three Rivers Provider Network [CHULA VISTA, Calif.] welcomes executive Robert C. Malone as its new President and CEO as well as a Board Member. From 2013 to 2015, he served as chief executive of The Assist Group in Denver. Before heading The Assist Group, Malone also served as President and CEO of Premier Healthcare Exchange senior vice president and chief operating officer for Willis North America; executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Amalgamated Life Insurance Co. and president of their subsidiary Alicare, Inc. Malone has also consulted for various third-party administrators and health plans alike, domestically and internationally.
AVANGRID [PORTLAND, Ore.] (NYSE: AGR) announced Laura Beane as the incoming CEO for Avangrid Renewables, noting outgoing CEO Frank Burkhartsmeyer’s resignation to take a position with another company.
Retail Design Collaborative [LONG BEACH, Calif.] announced Brad Williams as new Chief Executive Officer, elevating him from Chief Operating Officer. The firm’s former CEO, Steve Ruth, remains President and Chairman of the Board. Williams joined the firm in 1999 as part of the firm’s Studio One Eleven brand. Following his appointment as COO of the overall firm in 2013, Williams helped lead the company in a positive direction.
Binary Tree [KENDALL PARK, N.J.] promoted its chief operating officer, Nick Wilkinson, to CEO as founder Steven Pivnik transitions from CEO to the executive chairman role. Wilkinson previously served as the CEO of Vitalyst. Wilkinson has achieved success across the commercial spectrum: With Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), Vitalyst, and his own IT security startup company. His roles included profit and loss management, corporate strategy, consultancy, sales and marketing and portfolio management.
